How is the target sound formed?
Shape
Focus on one French sound with IPA, a physical mouth cue, spelling patterns, and examples drawn from the mission.
Can speech recognition detect the model words?
Say
Record the model phrase and use Phrase Match to see which words were detected, then repeat with one deliberate change.
Can you answer in your own voice?
Use
Respond to a practical role-play prompt so the sound and phrase must work inside meaning, not only as an isolated imitation.
What Phrase Match means
A repeat signal, not a label for your accent.
Phrase Match reports which words in the model phrase speech recognition detected. Use a missed word as a prompt to listen, apply the sound cue, and try once more.
It is not an accent score
It does not perform an acoustic assessment of accent quality, identity, or native-likeness.
Conditions matter
Background noise, microphone quality, speaking volume, and speech-recognition errors can change the result.
One change at a time
The useful action is choosing one word or sound to repeat, not treating one result as a verdict.

How to interpret the practice
What is the Parle Hear, Shape, Say, Use method?
It is the four-step loop used across all 120 speaking missions: understand a French exchange, focus one sound, record a model phrase, and answer a practical prompt aloud.
What does Phrase Match measure?
Phrase Match reports which words in the model phrase speech recognition detected. It is not an accent, pronunciation-quality, fluency, proficiency, or CEFR score, and background noise or microphone quality can change the result.
Is the course content generated by AI?
No. Mission phrases, sound cues, outcomes, and model pronunciation audio are reviewed first-party course content. AI Coach Léo is an optional, separate source of generated conversation practice.
Does the method certify an A2 level?
No. The A0-A2 structure organizes progressive can-do practice and stage checks; it is not an official CEFR certification.
